“One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”
World Health Organization (WHO) campaign slogan for World Blood Donor Day 2026 (June 14)
“Emergency Blood Shortage”
American Red Cross emergency announcement (July 13)
To mark World Blood Donor Day 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced its campaign slogan, emphasizing that blood donation is more than a medical procedure. It is an act of humanity that embodies solidarity, compassion, and shared responsibility. WHO also highlighted the importance of regular, voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation in maintaining a stable blood supply.
The United States also faced a critical blood shortage as a decline in summer donations coincided with increased demand. After the Red Cross blood supply fell by nearly 25% in June, the American Red Cross declared an emergency blood shortage on July 14 and urgently called on the public to donate blood.

Summer, particularly July and August, can be a challenging time for blood collection in many countries, as vacations and school breaks often lead to fewer donations. Meanwhile, increased outdoor activity can result in more emergency trauma cases, driving up the demand for blood. With blood needed for a wide range of medical purposes, including childbirth and cancer treatment, regular blood donation is essential to maintaining a stable blood supply.

In response to these blood supply challenges, the International WeLoveU Foundation (WeLoveU) once again lent its support, building on its efforts in the first half of the year. From July 16 to September 6, the organization carried out its Worldwide Blood Drive campaign across 17 countries for the second half of 2026, encouraging voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation and sharing the gift of life with people in need of blood.

The Spirit of Sharing Life Around the World: Heartwarming Moments from the Field
At blood donation events around the world, warm acts of sharing life continued across national and cultural boundaries. Despite the sweltering heat, WeLoveU members welcomed citizens who came to donate blood with warm smiles and encouraged the donors throughout the events.
Citizens who donated blood expressed joy in knowing that their small acts could help save someone else’s life. They also shared their desire to continue taking part in blood donation and the effort to save lives.
Red Cross organizations, local governments, and medical institutions in various countries expressed their gratitude to WeLoveU for helping secure blood supplies through its blood donation efforts. They presented the organization with commendations and certificates of appreciation and requested its continued participation and cooperation in blood donation activities.
“Blood donation is a meaningful and valuable act that should be actively encouraged. It is especially meaningful that this event was organized to fulfill social responsibility at a time when blood supplies are running low. I believe today’s efforts will be of great help to patients in need of blood.”
Subha Lakshmi Shakya, Deputy Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality, Nepal
“This is the 904th blood drive, correct? Reaching that number would require holding a blood drive every day for two years and nine months. I sincerely thank the WeLoveU members who take part in blood donation out of a genuine desire to help others. We will make sure that the donated blood reaches patients in need of transfusions.”
Chae Seong, Team Leader, Seoul Central Blood Center, South Korea
“Young people today tend to focus primarily on themselves, but WeLoveU’s young members seem to have a strong sense of responsibility and concern for others. What we need now is this kind of effort to help people in our communities who are in need. I thank the WeLoveU Foundation for encouraging the younger generation to put social responsibility into practice.”
Mary Jane Millanar, Nurse, Philippine Blood Center

“Thank you for participating in the blood donation event held at the Hospital Regional Docente de Cajamarca. This blood drive will greatly help save precious lives across different parts of Cajamarca. On behalf of everyone at the hospital, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you at WeLoveU.”
Jaqueline Silva Díaz, Head of the Blood Bank and Hemotherapy Department, Hospital Regional Docente de Cajamarca (HRDC), Peru
“Donating blood is no ordinary act, because giving someone the gift of life is not easy. Before donating blood, it is important to eat well and exercise, but it is also important to take care of your emotional well-being. Feelings of hatred and anger can affect the quality of the blood. You all seem like angels for having worked so hard to prepare both your bodies and minds for today.”
Park Jong-gil, Former Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, South Korea

For patients in need of blood and their families, blood donation is a precious gift that helps make continued treatment possible. People who shared this sense of compassion also joined WeLoveU’s blood donation campaigns, adding even greater meaning to the act of sharing life.
“My mother also receives blood free of charge from a blood center as part of her dialysis treatment. It is through this blood that her life is being sustained. I hope many people will participate in blood donation, because it brings hope to others and helps protect their lives.”
Jessalyn Gajutos, WeLoveU Member, Philippines
“I participated in a blood donation campaign organized by a local blood center. I am grateful to the members who took the time to participate in this blood drive to help save many lives. I hope more people will join this meaningful effort to save lives.”
Mónica, WeLoveU Member, Argentina
“As a nurse, I see many patients who need blood transfusions in the course of my work, so I deeply understand the importance of blood donation. Donating blood saves lives.”
Kim Na-yeon, WeLoveU Member, South Korea

The Worldwide Blood Drive will continue to support people in need of blood and encourage greater awareness of and participation in voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation. We hope that the gift of life will continue to spread around the world, with one person’s act inspiring another to take part.
