Safe environment makes the happy future
In September 2017, the State of Puebla in Mexico was struck with a 7.1-magnitude earthquake. About 200,000 houses and 2,200 schools were damaged, but due to the frequent earthquakes since then, even after two years, most of them are not recovered yet. Especially, almost half of education facilities still remain damaged from the earthquake.
The public kindergarten “Jardín de Niños Profesora Ana María Arruel,” where 210 children of age 4 to 7 attend, was also damaged by the earthquake. The walls surrounding the building became slanted and because of a possible collapse, the playground within the walls was banned. Also, in some classrooms, the window frames were warped that they could not even open the windows. But as the kindergarten was not in good financial situation, they were unable to fix the issues; they simply restrained the children from accessing those areas for their safety.
The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation consulted with the Education Department and stepped forward to improving the situation of the Jardín de Niños Profesora Ana María Arruel. The WeLoveU decided to fix the walls and window frames and to supply other necessary education materials.
The construction began on Nov. 25. The technical experts built up the wall stronger this time and fixed the warped window frames and the windows. The members also replaced two old chalkboards that became bumpy over time, and placed a new filter in the water purifier that could not be used for a long time as it was neglected. All the renovation was completed within a week.
On Dec. 5, the completion ceremony of the facility repair and the donation ceremony was held at Jardín de Niños Profesora Ana María Arruel held. Around 320 people, including the Kindergarden Principal Leticia Maximo Gomez, teachers, kids, and the parents greeted the WeLoveU members with a warm welcome. The children cheerfully performed playing drums and tambourines to welcome them in the happy atmosphere.
On this day, the WeLoveU members donated education materials, tableware, toys, closets, etc. All the parents who were concerned of the school’s safety and of the insufficient education facilities were glad. The Principal Leticia Maximo Gomez presented the letter of appreciation and the appreciation plaque.
After repairing the facilities, the children are now able to focus on learning with the refreshed mind. WeLoveU hopes that the children can grow up in safe environment and have a bright future.
