Delivered 3,000 face masks and groceries to the Gasabo regional office in Kigali, Rwanda
Since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Rwanda was reported in mid-March, the confirmed cases continued to occur. The Rwandan government stopped operating airliners for a month from mid-March, and kept a blockade in the region where there was a confirmed case. In July, a curfew was ordered from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and it started from 7 p.m. a month later. Since then, the curfew time changed according to the number of confirmed cases, and many people lost their jobs as they were forced to work at home or because their work schedules were canceled.
The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the “WeLoveU”) stepped up to help the vulnerable as the pandemic dragged on and the hardships of the vulnerable get worse. The members decided to deliver face masks and food to the underprivileged through the Gasabo regional office in Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. On January 11, not too long after the New Year’s Day, they delivered 3,000 face masks, 500 kg (1,100 lbs) of rice and soybeans each, and 100L of cooking oil to the Gasabo regional office.
A WeLoveU member explained why they donated the face masks and groceries to the underprivileged in the region, saying, “People cannot afford to buy food and face masks as well because they lost their job due to COVID-19 although they must wear a new mask to prevent infectious diseases.”
Alphonse Rutarindwa, the Director of Public Health at Gasabo Regional Office, attended the donation ceremony, and appreciated the WeLoveU’s support. On that day, TV10 reported on this donation in detail on the radio at 5 p.m. and TV at 7 p.m. with the WeLoveU members preparing donated supplies, the donation ceremony, and interviews with members.
