In mid-August, many places of the earth turned dark red.
In Asia, the maximum temperature in cities frequently exceeded 45°C (113°F),
and dams and reservoirs dried up due to droughts in North America and Europe.
On the other hand, more than 100 millimeters of rain per hour poured in Korea 14 times
within a month, which was described as water bomb.

While climate disasters are prevalent due to global warming, the WeLoveU
decided to respond to the climate change through a small but powerful practice.
It is through the Summer Vacation & Clean Action Challenge to reduce carbon emissions by saving energy and resources during the summer vacation.

We would like to express our gratitude to those who participated in the challenge to cool down the earth’s temperature during the month of August despite the hot weather.
The enthusiasm for participating in the challenge was hotter than the scorching sun
in summer! Now, let’s share their reviews.

Check Before Departure!

Check the Tire Pressure✅

Lee Ja-young

As I became a member of the WeLoveU, I became more interested in environmental issues. I heard of the WeLoveU challenge while I got worried after hearing the news that the global environmental problems are getting worse. To participate in the challenge, I checked the pressure of the tires and unplugged the appliances that would not be used, before I left for my vacation. I am proud to participate in the challenge for the environment.

Shall We Save Energy on Move?

🧳 Avoid Overloading With Unnecessary Belongings 🚘

Kim Ham-pyo

Before leaving for the summer vacation, I found out that many unnecessary things were in the car for a long time. If it had not been for the Clean Action Challenge, I would have kept carrying those heavy items covered with dust in the car. I support the WeLoveU’s activities to reduce carbon emissions. I will participate in other Clean Action activities, too.

My child had a school assignment called, “Climate Action 365,” during August. The WeLoveU’s Summer Vacation & Clean Action Challenge was also held in August, so I practiced it with my child every day. We used public transportation and unplugged unused appliances, and also read books related to climate and environment and drew environmental posters.

Enjoy Vacation While Caring for the Earth

🙅‍♀️ Disposable, NO! 🙅‍♂️

Kim Ye-eun

We belong to the environmental club “MAUM” at Hanyang Women’s University. After learning about the WeLoveU’s environmental challenge, we used tumblers to reduce the use of disposable. We were proud that we participated in the environmental movement. During the summer vacation, we knitted cup sleeves. The knitted cup sleeves prevent cups from sweating, and also protect our hands from touching a hot or cold surface directly. On top of that, they can be replaced with disposable cup sleeves. If you usually use disposable cup sleeves a lot, we recommend knitting a cup sleeve!

Since my husband was busy with his work, we decided to spend our summer vacation eating delicious food at home. To make it feel like going to a picnic, I made Kimbap and also bought pork cutlet and fish cake at the market. As I asked the owner of the fish cake store to put my order in my reusable container to reduce carbon emissions, he gave me the thumbs up. I had to walk ten minutes with my groceries, but it did not feel heavy because I felt great to participate in reducing carbon emissions.

🏃‍♂️ Plogging 🏃‍♀️

Oh Yu-mi

My husband and I went on a summer vacation to the Salt Mountain. The mountain was simple but beautiful. I saw people littering while climbing down the mountain. I took out a plastic bag that I prepared and started picking up trash, and it became full quickly. Next time, I should bring a bigger trash bag. I will continue to practice the environmental activities with concern.

✨ Beautiful Empty Containers 🍽

We saw the beautiful night sea of Yeosu and ate delicious food. All the delicious food was consumed and only the empty containers were left. We ate to our hearts’ content and protected the earth.

My family participated in the Clean Action Campaign at the vacation site this summer. Before leaving, we unplugged all the appliances we would not use. When we arrived at the hotel, we used only reusable utensils and ate everything we prepared without leftover. We spent a meaningful vacation doing small but valuable activities to protect the environment with our entire family.
