Nepal has faced unfortunate incidents in which several public facilities were damaged by fire or vandalism amid social and economic challenges and growing tensions within society. Although local residents have worked to restore peace through mutual consideration and cooperation, the restoration of public facilities in the community has been slow.
Sankhu Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the entire Shankharapur Municipality, suffered severe damage to both the interior and exterior of its building in a fire. As a result, normal police operations became difficult, and residents lost access to a space where they could receive public safety services and administrative assistance.
LadhaKrishna Shrestha, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 6 in Shankharapur Municipality, where Sankhu Police Station is located, requested WeLoveU’s support in restoring the police station to help stabilize public safety and reorganize community facilities. WeLoveU members immediately visited the site.

The interior and exterior walls of the police station building were heavily blackened by soot, and all fire extinguishers had been used during the fire, leaving the facility vulnerable to further fire incidents. More importantly, as the station was unable to function properly, a significant gap had emerged in community safety.

| • Disruption in security services threatened public safety. • Delays in restoring public institutions increased community anxiety. |
• Safety and security concerns were addressed, restoring the function of public facilities. • Improvements to public facilities helped promote community stability. |
Shankharapur and its surrounding areas include both traditional residential neighborhoods and newly developed districts. If public institutions that serve as community hubs remain damaged and neglected, residents may continue to experience disruption in their daily lives and emotional unease.
To support community recovery, it was urgent to establish a positive cycle of restoring infrastructure → rebuilding public trust → creating a stable public safety environment.
Mayor Ramesh Napit of Shankharapur also requested WeLoveU’s active cooperation in restoring the police station as part of the region’s recovery efforts. WeLoveU responded immediately and joined the restoration work without delay.

WeLoveU members from the Kathmandu area of Nepal worked diligently to clean the fire-blackened interior and exterior walls and facilities, repair damaged sections, and repaint the building so that the police station could once again welcome residents. They also installed new sidewalk blocks in front of the station to improve pedestrian safety and provided 10 fire extinguishers to help ensure a rapid response to any future fire emergencies.
