In Cape Town, South Africa, members of the International WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter referred to as WeLoveU) gathered with cheerful energy and warmed up to lively music before beginning a local environmental initiative. The day’s mission was to clean up the park and waterway surrounding Milky Way Dr in the Phoenix area. The cleanup was launched at the request of Cape Town City Councillor Anthony Banadie, who had previously partnered with WeLoveU on several “Clean WORLD Movement” projects. Concerned about the growing amount of litter in the area, he reached out to the organization for support. In response, around 110 volunteers came together to take action.

Members collected trash from playgrounds and grassy areas and cleared the waterway connecting Milky Way Pond to Milnerton Lagoon.

Over the course of two hours, they gathered approximately one metric ton of household waste.

he area, once strewn with litter, was transformed into a clean and welcoming public space.

“The WeLoveU Foundation is truly legendary. I’m amazed that every member is personally involved in keeping the city clean. One day, I hope to join Honorary Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah in a cleanup activity.”
Anthony Benadie, DA Councillor, City of Cape Town

“When Councillor Benadie asked, ‘Can you come to our area? We’ve planned a cleanup with WeLoveU,’ I immediately said yes. I remember first meeting WeLoveU in Bellville before the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ve seen the incredible work you’re doing all across the city. Today, you thanked me for being here, but honestly, it’s an even greater privilege for Councillor Benadie and me to take part. I would love to invite you to my district of Athlone as well.”
Zahid Badroodien, Cape Town City Councillor and Mayoral Committee Member
Through its ongoing Clean WORLD Movement, WeLoveU remains committed to improving public spaces and promoting environmental well-being, creating cleaner, more comfortable communities for all.
