Members from the branch in Haiti visited Wharf Jeremie Vocational and Technical Training Center to cheer up the students
On Oct 28, the members from the WeLoveU branch in Haiti visited Wharf Jeremie Vocational and Technical Training Center in Port-au-Prince to meet with the 100 students. Due to a lack of electricity supply, the students had difficulty studying after sunset; on May 31, the WeLoveU branch donated 3,000 solar-powered lanterns as part of Bright Haiti Initiative, five months before.
The students unanimously agreed that the solar-powered lanterns, not only help them with their school study, but also brought about positive impacts on their families and local communities. A few of the students donated their lanterns to their families in villages where there is no electricity supply.
Wismail Pierre Louis, a student who majors in accounting, said, “In Haiti, there is a rare electricity supply; so it’s difficult to do anything at night. But the lanterns changed our daily routines. I grew up in a small town. So whenever I go to my hometown, I always take the lantern, so I can help with housework. People in my hometown congratulated me on receiving such a beautiful gift. I don’t know how to thank the WeLoveU enough for the wonderful gift.”
Clemard Junia, a student at the training center, said, “We want to deeply thank the Chairwoman of the WeLoveU Foundation, who is considerate of us. Though we had lots of work to do, we couldn’t do them at home, before. But thanks to the lanterns, the standard of our living has greatly improved, and we can now do things we couldn’t do before.”
On the day, the students gave a performance where they made the shape of “WeLoveU” letters with their lanterns. The WeLoveU members cheered up the students by providing warm meals and school stationery, including books, pencils, and pens. Jean Marie Boujolie, the Principal of the school, expressed his gratitude to the WeLoveU and hoped to work together. The WeLoveU plans to take a multilateral approach to conduct the Bright Haiti Initiative for the improvement of the education condition and the standard of school life.
