Delivered 5,000 face masks and 350 liters of hand sanitizer to the Uganda Ministry of Health

“We’ve received 5,000 face masks and 350 liters of hand sanitizer from the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation headquartered in Korea in order to respond to the COVID-19. These are essential supplies for us during this period. Thankfully, this is not the first time the WeLoveU supported us. They also held a blood donation event in Uganda. The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation carries out many charity activities for the vulnerable all over the world.”

This was spoken by Geoffrey Seremba, Vice Minister of Uganda Ministry of Health, during an interview at the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation’s COVID-19 Prevention Supplies Donation Ceremony on January 11. The Vice Minister welcomed the WeLoveU members and thanked them for donating the supplies they needed the most during the pandemic, and expressed interest and support for the WeLoveU activities.

The WeLoveU decided to donate COVID-19 prevention supplies to the Ministry of Health because it had been difficult for the Ministry to direct citizens due to the prolonged pandemic. The day after the first confirmed case was reported in Uganda (March 23), the Ugandan government closed almost all land and air routes and the entry and exit of people between countries was restricted. Border closures continued and it was announced for schools to be closed. Nevertheless, in July and August of that year, the number of patients who needed intensive care due to the worsening of symptoms increased drastically. The capital city Kampala was affected the most. In mid-November when there were single-digit confirmed cases in other regions, the number of confirmed cases in Kampala reached nearly 200 every day.

The WeLoveU members became one to help the Ministry of Health, which was making every effort for the lives and health of the people, and urgently prepared coronavirus prevention supplies and delivered them. In accordance with the members’ willingness to support the Ministry of Health, the Vice Minister promised that the supplies would be provided to the employees of the Ministry of Health, medical teams, and local medical centers first.

On that day, Diana Atwindow, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health, came to the members who were preparing for the donation ceremony and greeted them with a fist to express her gratitude. Although she was unable to attend the main ceremony due to her planned schedule, she wrote a letter of gratitude to Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah. In her letter, she expressed her sincere heart and said, “‘On behalf of the Ugandan government, I express my gratitude to the Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah for your unceasing efforts and dedication. We are grateful for giving us the conviction that we can overcome this epidemic together.”

The WeLoveU members in Uganda carried out the Clean World Movement from 2016 to 2018, taking the lead in environmental cleanup. In 2019, they participated in the WeLoveU’s worldwide blood drive and conveyed the hope of a new life by delivering a mother’s love to the global family members who were in danger. The members said they would continue to work to overcome difficulties, not neglecting the difficulties of their neighbors, as they have done.
