WHEREAS, the International WeLoveU Foundation is a non-profit organization that was established in South Korea in 2001. Founded by Zahng Gil-jah, who also serves as the chairwoman, WeLoveU was created to improve peoples’ lives in communities on a worldwide scale, beyond the borders of nationality, race, socioeconomic status and religious background. The organization has been associated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications since 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Chairwoman’s passion and concern for others has inspired nearly 300,000 volunteers in more than 50 countries to serve their communities and share a mother’s love by focusing on six key areas: Education, Emergency Relief, Environmental Protection, Health, International Aid, and Social Welfare; and
WHEREAS, Volunteers from the Syracuse chapter have dedicated two years to beautifying and maintaining the local community through monthly cleanups year-round, during the spring, summer, fall and winter; and
WHEREAS, in January 2021, WeLoveU launched a national blood donation campaign, responding to the emergency need for blood caused by the coronavirus pandemic that will save lives of numerous patients across the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, continuing the work of helping to sustain lives, WeLoveU volunteers organized a blood drive on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at the New York State Fair Grounds in partnership with the American Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, this year, as the International WeLoveU Foundation celebrates 20 years of its establishment, also honoring the Chairwoman’s public service and humanitarian efforts, the charge for citizens to practice love for humanity world peace lives on.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, J. Ryan McMahon, II County Executive of the County of Onondaga, and I, Ben Walsh, Mayor of the City of Syracuse, do hereby proclaim the Twenty-Eighth Day of February, Two Thousand and Twenty-One to be
International WeLoveU Foundation Day
in Onondaga County and the City of Syracuse
