Providing water supply facilities and sanitation facility to two primary schools in rural areas of Cambodia

The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation branch in Cambodian set out to povide water supply facilities and sanitation facility to the students in rural areas so that they could enjoy a healthy school life.

On November 12, the WeLoveU’s water pump donation ceremony was held at Trorpeangveng Primary School in Samraong, Oddar Meanchey. Because there is no stream or river around the school, the residents had to use rainwater collected during the rainy season or bring water from afar in order to get water for drinking and living. Since the cost of water supply facility is too high, they could not even think about it. Although they had ever tried to install a water pump, they failed because the water source was not found.

At this, the WeLoveU decided to donate a water pump to Trorpeangveng Primary School in consultation with the state education office. On September 7, drilling began on the school vacant lot. Shortly thereafter, water began to come out 70 meters below the ground. The construction was successfully completed on the 15th.

The water pump donation ceremony was attended by Principal Dun Rith, students and their parents, WeLoveU members, and Bun Phady the Deputy Director of Department of Education Youth and Sport of Kratie. The water gushing from the water pump brought a big smile to everyone’s face.

On December 20, the WeLoveU’s completion ceremony of a new restroom was held at Sambok Primary School in Chetr Borei, Kratie. Existing restroom only had four stalls and most of them were broken, so the 500 students were very inconvenienced. The WeLoveU, which received a request for school support from the state education office, decided to build another restroom building in consultation with the school principal and a construction company.

The construction began on November 17 and finished on December 10. A four-stall restroom and wash basins were built in front of the existing restroom. The completion ceremony was held ten days later, being attended by Theam Heng the Deputy Director of Department of Education Youth and Sport of Kratie, as well as the school teachers and students, and WeLoveU members.

On the day of the donation ceremony and of the completion ceremony at each of the two schools, the members presented school supplies to all students of the two schools, wishing the kids to study hard with dreams and courage. Trorpeangveng Primary School and Sambok Primary School each presented a letter of appreciation to the WeLoveU to express their gratitude for its heartfelt support.
