As the Syrian civil war prolonged, the procession of refugees leaving their hometowns in search of peace continues. Jordan, which borders Syria, is also crowded with refugees. Jordan hosts many Syrian refugees, but struggles with insufficient funding and aid.

At this, the Jordanian embassy in Korea asked the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation to help Syrian refugees in their country. Honorary Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah promised H.E. Adel Mohammad Adaileh the Jordanian Ambassador to Korea that she would make a donation for the refugees, at the Meeting for the Exchange of Views on Global Welfare Activities held on February 6. On May 3, the WeLoveU sent a fund of $20,000 to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization [JHCO], a non-profit aid organization recommended by the embassy.

JHCO prepared grocery such as rice, canned food, salt, and pasta with the funds from the WeLoveU. The groceries were delivered to Syrian refugees in all parts of Jordan through six aid organizations such as Take My Hands, Aqraba Charitable Society, and Circassian Charitable Association, for about three weeks from June 13. The WeLoveU members along with JHCO officials delivered grocery boxes to the refugees in Irbid on June 14.

By July 2, grocery boxes were delivered to a total of 950 Syrian refugees from 703 households in the regions of Amman, Irbid, Mafraq, and Zarqa. JHCO sent a letter of appreciation to the WeLoveU for helping the refugees, and looked forward to constant cooperation for the public good.

The Syrian civil war began in 2011 and caused 11 million refugees until last year. Of these, 4.6 million people have left Syria. The international community’s interest in the refugees and in the neighboring countries that are endeavoring to embrace them, is more desperate than ever.
