Taking the first step toward improving the educational environment of public schools in India, starting with Wadapally Public School

“We are very grateful to the WeLoveU for donating cabinets and school bags to us. We will take the schoolbags with us when we graduate, but the new students can still make use of the cabinets; for this reason, we are truly happy.”

One student named Shamala in 10th grade said that before her graduation. She took more delight in the fact that her school’s educational environment had improved for new students than getting her new schoolbag.

Schools in India are largely grouped into public, private, and catholic schools. Children from middle and upper class normally attend catholic or private schools; and their school facilities and educational environment are much better than those of public schools run by the government. Majority of public schools have run-down facilities due to very low budgets and their education qualities are not good either, which leads to worsening the social gap between the students from private schools and those from public schools, after graduation.

Having learned of this situation, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation(Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah) began a project to improve the educational environment of public schools. The WeLoveU decided to first help out public schools in two cities, Warangal and Hyderabad, in the state of Telangana. The first public school they gave a helping hand to was Wadapally Public School in the city of Warangal.

Donating 200 schoolbags, replacing old school facilities, and cleaning the school environment

Wadapally Public School has about 200 students in 6–10 grades. However, the fluorescent lamps and notice boards were very old, which hindered the students from concentrating on study. Furthermore, many students commuted to the school with textbooks in their hands because they did not have school bags; as a result, their textbooks were often damaged and they would often lose them as well.

The WeLoveU members donated 200 schoolbags, 10 fluorescent lamps, 10 electric fans, 10 notice boards, and 6 cabinets to Wadapally Public School on September 13, and on the next day, they held a donation ceremony. After the donation ceremony, the members put a fresh coat of paint on exterior walls of the school and removed weeds. Furthermore, they themselves replaced the old fluorescent lamps and notice boards with new ones in each class.

School Principal Vachakarla expressed her gratitude to the WeLoveU for giving sincere love to her school, saying, “The WeLoveU helped our students realize the love of a mother. On behalf of all the school staff, students, and school parents, I would like to sincerely thank the WeLoveU Chairwoman, who is full of love.”
