Lighting Up the Home

In a low-rise apartment in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, lives a middle-aged
mother, her young adult son, and her high school senior daughter.
It was a precious space for the family, which was purchased with great efforts
a few years ago, but the building was old and needed a lot of repairs.
Mold had grown due to poor insulation, and the veranda used as the kitchen
and utility room had severe water leaks and condensation.
Outdated lighting fails to brighten the home, leaving it feeling dim.
Speak Out of Your Heart
“I’m worried about the children’s health because mold is growing in every room. I wish at least the children’s rooms wouldn’t have mold concerns.”
WeLoveU members gathered their strength to fulfill the mother’s earnest wish. From April 30 to May 2, over 20 volunteers donated their skills to make their family’s home more comfortable.
How WeLoveU Worked

One. Remove the old wallpaper and eliminate mold.
Two. Attach thick insulation to block out drafts.

Before & After
The home repairs were finished with love.
The house, now free from mold and stains, looked fresh and tidy,
almost as if it had been dressed in new clothes.
With all the replaced fixtures shining brightly,
the interior of the house became noticeably brighter.

“I Can Feel the Warmheartedness of the Volunteers”
The mother expressed her gratitude to the members with sincerity.
The youngest daughter was delighted to see her changed room and invited her friends over, while the son, though not expressing it outwardly, rearranged the furniture and tidied up the room.
The mother was delighted to see her children happy.
“At first, receiving help from someone felt quite awkward.
But feeling the warmheartness of the volunteers, I can’t help but be grateful. If an opportunity arises for me to help someone in need, I will definitely join in.”

After thoroughly cleaning the moldy wall and repainting them, it felt like even my heart was cleansed. Despite feeling a bit tired, it was actually a happy time.
WeLoveU’s “Residential Environment Improvement Project” to take care of households,
the smallest unit in community, is in line with the eleventh goal of the SDGs,
“Sustainable Cities and Communities.” WeLoveU will continue to care about
our neighbors and share love with them so that no one is left behind.
