Providing Educational and Dental Supplies to Pablo Neruda School in Quito, Ecuador

Pablo Neruda School in Quito, Ecuador, is a primary school attended by 720 first to sixth grader students. Although it is a public school, the government support was not enough to supply learning tools and materials for the students.

The Intl. WeLoveU Foundation members in Quito, Ecuador, decided to donate educational supplies to the school so that the students could healthily and joyfully receive quality education. From September 25, the WeLoveU members visited the school several times, and discussed specifically how they could support the school with the principal and teachers. The school requested dental supplies to be reserved in the school infirmary along with educational supplies.

The WeLoveU members purchased support items by type and wholeheartedly packaged them. On October 25, the WeLoveU’s educational supplies donation ceremony was held at Pablo Neruda School. It was attended by Luis Chilusa, the school principal, all the school students and their parents, Choi Jeong-woo, the manager of the WeLoveU branch in Quito, Ecuador, and twelve WeLoveU members. Also, officials from the education office, including Miguel Guamán, a school inspector, joined the event.

The WeLoveU donated 22 teaching tools such as wooden chalkboards, alphabet puzzles, and human body models, as well as 26 types of dental supplies and 720 sets of school supplies to the school. Furthermore, they donated a beam projector, two screen sets, one printer, and six bookshelves. Luis Chilusa the school principal, who presented a plaque of appreciation to the WeLoveU, expressed gratitude, saying, “Our students are very joyful for WeLoveU’s visit to donate teaching tools. We are so happy. We will use the support items well for educating the students.”

The WeLoveU members visited the school again in the afternoon of the day. It was to help out a disabled student, who was carried on her mother’s back to attend school located on a high hill. Having learned about the circumstance of the disabled student, the WeLoveU members decided to donate a wheelchair and purchased the wheelchair equipped with brakes for safety on a slope. The WeLoveU’s heartfelt gift touched the heart of every one of them.

Just as new buds require sufficient water and nutrients, children who took the first step in learning need ample love and care. The WeLoveU’s support for Pablo Neruda School will serve as a foundation of love, which helps the students receive quality education and grow well.
