On the outskirts of Tacloban City in the Visayas region of the Philippines, beyond stretches of dusty fields, stands Tacloban National Agricultural School (TNAS). Here, 820 students who aspire to become future leaders in agriculture work hard each day, pursuing their education with hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Yet the reality they face is far from easy. Many parts of the school buildings have deteriorated with age, but limited government support has made much-needed repairs difficult to carry out. As a result, unsafe conditions throughout the school have put the students’ education and dreams at risk.

On-Site Assessment: Learning Conditions That Put Students at Risk

🚨Lack of Security

Severely damaged classroom doors leave students exposed to external security risks.

🌧️Weather Vulnerability

During the rainy season, wind and rain enter through warped window frames and broken panes, forcing classes to be suspended.

🧼Health and Sanitation Concerns

Clogged restroom plumbing causes foul odors, while dust and debris from damaged ceilings pose a risk to students’ respiratory health.

Isaac Dave A. Mora, the school head, explained that “when it rains, it becomes nearly impossible to conduct classes” and requested renovations for the students who remained committed to their studies despite the difficult conditions.

Creating a Safe Learning Environment: Renovating the School Building

After consulting with the Philippine Department of Education Region VIII (Eastern Visayas), WeLoveU decided to carry out extensive renovations on the building for Grades 9 and 10, which had suffered the most severe deterioration. The renovation work, carried out from February 24 to April 20, 2026, transformed the aging building into a safer and more comfortable learning space.

Learning Environment Improvements

On June 10, 2026, a Renovation Completion Ceremony was held at Tacloban National Agricultural School. Officials from the Philippine Department of Education and local government leaders attended the event and saw firsthand the improvements made to the school’s learning environment.

Edgar Y. Tenasas, Schools Division Superintendent under the Department of Education Region VIII, said that although the Department of Education works to provide quality education and a comfortable learning environment, challenges such as natural disasters make it difficult to meet all the needs of schools. He added, “Thanks to the warm support and goodwill of WeLoveU Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah, these facility improvements were made possible.”

Isaac Dave A. Mora, the school head, said, “Thanks to WeLoveU’s help and support, our students can now gain knowledge and skills in a more stable learning environment.” He continued, “This support has given our students hope and courage to dream bigger, continue learning, and move forward toward a brighter future.” In appreciation, the school presented plaques of appreciation to WeLoveU Honorary Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah and the International WeLoveU Foundation, expressing gratitude for their valuable support and generous contributions to the renovation of Tacloban National Agricultural School.

Students cheered and smiled brightly when they saw their newly renovated classrooms. They expressed relief at finally having safe classrooms where they no longer had to worry about the weather disrupting their lessons.

Expected Benefits of the Learning Environment Improvement Project

✍️Protecting the Right to Education

Protection from outside noise and adverse weather conditions helps students stay focused on their studies.

🚧Strengthening Safety and Security

Sturdy doors and windows help keep out external hazards, prevent accidents, and create a safer learning environment.

🩷Supporting Health and Emotional Well-Being

Clean and comfortable classrooms help promote emotional well-being and strengthen students’ sense of self-worth.

Now, in clean and comfortable classrooms protected from the rain, students can focus fully on nurturing their dreams. We hope these once-overlooked, dusty fields will be filled with learning and one day bear abundant fruit through the students’ growth and achievements. We look forward to seeing these students become the future leaders who will one day cultivate and enrich this land.

WeLoveU will continue to be a warm and dependable source of support wherever students and schools are in need.
