Walking Together, Sharing Love

On December 15, WeLoveU members in Malaysia visited Program Pemulihan
Dalam Komuniti Nusajaya (Nusajaya Community Rehabilitation Program, hereinafter PDK Nusajaya) in Iskandar Puteri, Johore. Earlier in July, WeLoveU provided household appliances and educational equipment to the PDK Nusajaya, establishing a meaningful connection, which led to organizing this walkathon in celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).

Since its establishment in 1992, the International Day of Persons with
Disabilities has been marked by various events and campaigns worldwide,
aimed at addressing challenges faced by people with disabilities
while promoting their welfare and social participation.

In celebration of this day, WeLoveU also hosted a walkathon with PDK
Nusajaya, which supports the rehabilitation of neighbors in disabilities.
The event aimed to raise public awareness of the social, environmental,
and systemic challenges faced by people with disabilities.

A total of 152 participants joined the walkathon,
including officials from Malaysia government, representatives
from local welfare organization and business association,
as well as teachers, trainees, their families, and WeLoveU members

Participants walked a 1 km (0.6 mi) route starting from the center,
circlingthe surrounding area.

Local citizens showed their support for their efforts to create a world
where no one is left behind or discriminated against. One citizen,
moved by the event, even pledged a donation to the PDK Nusajaya.

After the walkathon, participants gathered for a special lecture
by Dr. Peremalatha Sundram, an occupational therapist
at the National Hospital under the Ministry of Health,
followed by a performance by the PDK Nusajaya’s trainees.

Dr. Sundram provided insight into Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
and developmental disabilities, explaining their characteristics,
communication methods, and the essential support
needed for affected children and their families.

Participants discussed ways to eliminate discrimination and prejudice
against people with disabilities and build a more inclusive society.

Mohd Faiz bin Abdullah, Director of PDK Nusajaya

“Today, we successfully held the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Walkathon. I would like to express my gratitude to Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah for her significant contribution to this meaningful 1 km walk. This event was made possible with WeLoveU’s support. Over 100 participants joined us today, most of whom were individuals with disabilities and their families. Unfortunately, there are very few events organized for them. Through positive programs like this, we are sending a message that persons with disabilities can actively participate in such an event. We will continue hosting similar initiatives next year and hope for greater participation from disability organizations across Johore. Thank you.”

Mohan Ramasamy, Representative of the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia

“First, I sincerely thank the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah, who leads humanitarian efforts worldwide. She has carried out numerous initiatives to support persons with disabilities and their families. Thank you again for organizing this meaningful event in honor of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.”

Peremalatha Sundram, Occupational Therapist at Hospital Sultanah Aminah

“I’ve founded two organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities—one for adults and the other for families with disabled children. Many people don’t know how to help their neighbors in need. Through these institutions, we provide them with opportunities to give back to society. There are many people in this world who require our assistance. We must extend our passion and support to the socially vulnerable. Thank you.”

WeLoveU reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside the PDK Nusajaya,
promising continued efforts to create the world a better place together.

P.S.

WeLoveU provided lunch, snacks, and T-shirts for all participants.
Furthermore, the Ministry of International Trade and Industry,
local welfare organizations, and business associations contributed donations
to the PDK Nusajaya, supporting the education expenses of its trainees.

They say that love should be expressed. This winter,
why not take out the love in your heart and share it with your neighbors?
Your kindness will bring bright smiles to their faces.

Let’s give love and share warmth with WeLoveU.
