On a clear day without a single cloud, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the “WeLoveU”) members from Gwangju and Suncheon gathered in Jungdo embarkment, Beolgyo-eup, Boseong-gun, wearing light green-colored vests. They were going to plant hydrangea seedlings on the Jungdo embarkment trail. The vast field of golden reeds swung in the wind as if to welcome the members.
The whole area of Beolgyo tidal flat, where Jungdo embarkment is located, is a treasure trove of life, where all kinds of tidal-flat creatures, including natural monuments such as otters and black cranes, live. Beolgyo tidal flat was listed as one of the Korean Tidal Flats on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage* in 2021, and in 2006 it was registered as a Ramsar Wetland along with the Suncheon Bay tidal flat for the first time among coastal wetlands in Korea.
*A natural area designated and registered by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site because it deems it worth protecting for the future of mankind.
The WeLoveU teamed up with Beolgyo-eup to make Beolgyo tidal flat more beautiful and to promote the importance and value of wetlands. For this, they decided to plant hydrangea seedlings on jungdo embarkment. It is part of the “WeLove Forest” project that plants trees to preserve the natural environment and restore the ecosystem.
On that day, the WeLoveU delivered 10 million KRW [approx. 8,000 USD] to Beolgyo-eup office to create an ecological environment, and the members planted hydrangea seedlings in four of the five sections of the 2.5 km trail.

A total of 2,500 green saplings were planted along the trail. A signboard “Mother Road” was set up at the head of the promenade. It was to commemorate the cooperation between the WeLoveU and Beolgyo-eup for making efforts for the environment, hoping that the visitors would find comfort and happiness here as if they are in the arms of their mothers.

“I am grateful to Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah for allowing the members to plant hydrangea in Beolgyo-eup, a small area along the southern coast of Korea, and also to the members who have come and volunteered.”
Seon Nam-gyu, Head of Beolgyo-eup
“The members gathered together to promote the importance of environmental protection and encourage citizens to participation in it, by spreading the ecological value and beautiful scenery of our country’s wetlands. I hope this place will be a comfortable resting place like a mother’s arms.”
