Rich taste of kimchi and rich love of Mother
At the beginning of winter, Korean mothers become busier preparing for winter: kimchi-making. Despite hard labor of making great amount of kimchi, mothers smile happily at the thought of feeding their family with it during winter.
On November 22, the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation also made kimchi for neighbors who are as precious as their own families. Appetizing smell spread strongly over the the Korean House Village from the early morning till around noon when the event finished.
In order to help Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah who has always taken care of neighbors in need for over thirty years, about 120 members including the vocalist Yun Tae-gyu who is a PR ambassador of the Foundation, vocalist Baek Mi-hyeon, vocalist Lee Seung-hun, wives of diplomats in Korea, officials of embassies and about 30 foreigners joined the event.
Though the participants made great amount of kimchi with about 2,000 Korean cabbages, they were full of laughter from the beginning till the end, feeding each other or learning how to mix kimchi seasoning.
Michaella from Germany said, “Korean kimchi is spicy, but it tastes rich. I wish our neighbors in need to receive love which is as rich as the taste of kimchi and to spend a warm winter.” Angelika an American, who already participated in the kimchi-making event held by the Foundation even third time, expressed her feeling, “I like kimchi most among Korean food. I know kimchi is more than just a side dish to Koreans. I’m overwhelmed to make kimchi by my hands and to help Korean neighbors in need.”
Foreign tourists, who visited the village, also participated in the kimchi making. They said, “Seeing people making kimchi and feeding each other, I thought that they are like a family. I’m very pleased to participate in this meaningful event thanks to the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation.”
Vocalist Yun Tae-gyu who joins every event of the Foundation smiled brightly, saying, “Since it is a good event to help our neighbors in need, I came here, pushing back all my schedules. I’m very happy to help others even a little bit.”
Chairwoman Zahng Gil-jah encouraged the participants, and said toward the neighbors who would receive the kimchi, “Although kimchi-making is a hard work, Korean mothers do with a whole heart every year, thinking that their family members will eat it deliciously throughout winter. Here are warmhearted neighbors who are like your own family. I wish you to live richly in mind even if you are in various difficulties.”
After kimchi-making event, Chairwoman visited neighbors in need in Baeksa village, Junggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, and consoled them with a warm heart by delivering kimchi, rice and gift sets. Meanwhile, 500 boxes of kimchi were distributed to neighbors in need such as senior citizens living alone, parentless households, multicultural family and so on, through the officials in Jung-gu, Songpa-gu, Nowon-gu offices in Seoul.
