Donation of safety supplies to Kageshwori Manohara Municipality and Kathmandu People's Medical College Hospital in Nepal

The basic methods of preventing COVID-19 are the same throughout the world: wearing a face mask well, following hygiene rules, and practicing social distancing. However, there are many places in the world where it is difficult to observe these basics. In most cases, the areas with a poor welfare system or with a small number of residents are not taken care of as much as other areas.

The Nepalese Chapter of the Intl. WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the WeLoveU) decided to help those who were alienated from the government’s efforts for COVID-19. They planned to donate safety supplies such as face masks and hand sanitizers to the People’s Medical College Hospital and Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Office in Kathmandu. Many local residents visited People’s Medical College Hospital, but it was difficult to prevent COVID-19 due to the old building and poor medical facilities; and Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Office had insufficient government support for the COVID-19 prevention.

On December 20, the WeLoveU donated 10,000 face masks, 340 portable hand sanitizers (100 and 500 ML), 40 L hand sanitizer, and two disinfectant dispensers to People’s Medical College Hospital. The head of the hospital expressed his gratitude to the WeLoveU for providing essential safety supplies. On December 31, the WeLoveU delivered 10,000 face masks, 390 (100 and 500 ML) hand sanitizers, 20 L hand sanitizer for a dispenser, and 1 sanitizer dispenser to Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Office in Kathmandu.

Mayor Krishna Hari Thapa said, “We will deliver the COVID-19 safety supplies to the poor through ten health centers and one hospital in our region. The municipality office will do its best to help citizens in need.” Then, he expressed his gratitude to the WeLoveU for supporting Kageshwori Manohara City.

Kumar Singh Davis, the Head of the Department of Health in Kageshwori Manohara City, said with a firm resolution, “While our city is making great efforts to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, we’ve received support from the WeLoveU. Since the role of our department is important to distribute the supplies, we will carefully send them to those who are in need.”

On that day, all the officials from the municipality offcie attended the donation ceremony, wearing a traditional Nepalese hat, Dhaka topi. It showed they regarded this donation as significant and presented themselves the best, This also proved that the COVID-19 prevention was an urgent matter for the region. Volunteer service becomes more valuable when we put our strength together especially in an important and urgent matter. Now it is more urgent than ever. Since more people need help, the value of volunteer service shines even more.
